VCF Scholarship / Study Award / Training Sponsorship / Traineeship

VCF Scholarship

The VCF offers local scholarships* for the study of:
  • Social work
  • Psychology
  • Counselling
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Speech Therapy


*For 2010, the VCF Scholarship will be awarded for pursuance of study in Singapore only.

Value of Scholarship

Scholarships may be awarded in part (50%) or in full (100%). It covers the following items:

Who can qualify?

a. Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident;
b. Excellent GCE ‘A’ level and /or diploma results;
c. Good Honours degree (applicable for postgraduate scholarships) and
d. Relevant work experience and strong interest to work in the social service sector.

How to apply?

To apply for the VCF Social Service Scholarship, please complete the 2-step application process:

STEP 1: Go to the BrightSparks Portal at http://student.brightsparks.com.sg/profile/mcysncss/scholarships.php?schid=275&PHPSESSID=rt4oglelch2s65eabr0opr2l20
to make an online application.

STEP 2: Your online application must be followed with the submission of supporting documents (eg a copy of your NRIC, academic transcripts, certificates, testimonials, reference letters, etc) within 7 working days from the date of your online application. Please mail your supporting documents to: National Council of Social Service, 170 Ghim Moh Road, #01-02 Singapore 279621, Attn: Ms Nancy Wee, Manpower Capacity and Capability Department (VCF Scholarship)

Applicants must seek admission to their intended course of study on their own before submitting the scholarship application.

Bond

Upon being awarded the scholarship, scholars are required to sign a Training Deed. Applicants (including public applicants) will be emplaced with either MCYS, NCSS or at a VWO, as deemed fit by the Scholarship Panel, to fulfill their bond duration upon completion of their studies. The bond duration is as follows:

Study Award

The VCF offers study award for Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Intervention (Special Needs) at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. This is a full sponsorship that covers the course fees and any other compulsory fees for Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Intervention (Special Needs).

Successful applicants who are currently at their 3rd year pursuing the Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECH) will also be supported with a monthly training allowance. In addition, they will be matched to potential Early Intervention Programmes for Infants and Children (EIPIC) centres prior to their graduation from the Diploma course. Shortlisted candidates will be notified to attend interviews for emplacement with EIPIC centres.

Who can qualify?

a. 3rd year student pursuing Diploma in Early Childhood Education at Ngee Ann Polytechnic; or
b. Existing VWO staff who are Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident.

How to apply?

Application is currently closed.
 For existing VWO staff, they must seek admission to the Ngee Ann Polytechnic on their own. They must be accepted for admission before being considered for the study award. Interested applicants are required to apply through the VCF Management System.
 For the 3rd year Diploma in ECH students, please fill up the prescribed application form and mail to:

Upon being awarded the Study Award, the trainees are required to sign a Training Deed. The bond duration is as follows:

Training Sponsorship

 

Social Work Associate Training Sponsorship *NEW*

MCYS, together with NCSS, introduced training sponsorship for students in the Diploma in Social Sciences (Social Work) course to provide opportunity for young talents to join the social service sector as Social Work Associates and to provide professional services to people in need in the community.

 Value of Training Sponsorship

The sponsorship package includes support for :

  • Tuition Fees
  • Other compulsory Fees
  • Allowance for Books and Reference Materials

Tenure

The sponsorship is tenable for the whole duration of the course, 3 years on full-time basis.

Students under this sponsorship will be attached to a Voluntary Welfare Organisation (VWO) in the social service sector for a period of one year upon completion of studies. The matching of students to potential employers will be done in the first year of the course.

Number of Awards

Up to 12 training sponsorships are available for 2010.

Who can qualify?

a. Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident;
b. 5 GCE ‘O’ Level passes (Grade 1 – 6) including English Language and
c. Gain admission into the Diploma in Social Sciences (Social Work) course for Academic Year 2010.

When to apply?

Application for the training sponsorship will be opened on 7 January 2010.
Closing date for application is 19 February 2010.

Sponsorship for NITEC in Community Care and Social Services

The VCF awards sponsorships to students who have been successfully matched with the Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs) for NITEC in Community Care and Social Services at Institute of Technical Education (ITE). This 2-year full-time course conducted by ITE equips students with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide care and support to clients in Nursing Homes, Community Hospitals, Community Rehabilitation Centres Day Care Centres and Senior Activity Centres and other disability services. It will also provide students with the skills and knowledge to perform administrative tasks including planning, organising and implementing community-based activities and events. Value of Sponsorship
This sponsorship covers the course fees, book allowance and training allowance.

Who can qualify?

a. Three GCE ‘N’ level passes (Grade 1 – 5) or (Grade A – D) in English Language and two other subjects; or
b. Two GCE ‘O’ level passes (Grade 1 – 8) in any subjects.

How to apply?

 Interested applicants must apply for the NITEC in Community Care and Social Services prior to application for sponsorship. Please visit the ITE website at http://www.ite.edu.sg for more information.

Upon being awarded the Sponsorship, the students are required to sign a Training Deed. The bond duration is 2 years upon completion of the course.
