Sabbatical Leave Scheme For Social Workers in the Social Service Sector
 
Purpose
The Sabbatical Leave Scheme aims to provide social workers the opportunity to recharge and refresh themselves. The scheme also provides social workers the opportunity to engage in activities for professional advancement.
 
Components of the Scheme

There are two components, namely Paid Leave and Professional Advancement Sponsorship.

Components Details Bond Duration
Paid Leave 10 weeks of paid leave support with salary up to a maximum of S$15,000 during the sabbatical period. 1 year Minimum Service Period*
(MSP)^
Professional Advancement Sponsorship Sponsorship support per applicant will be based on the cost of training undertaken by applicant and related expenditure capped at S$30,000 per applicant. Below S$10,000 1 year MSP
Between S$10,000 to S$30,000 1 year bond#
^ Minimum Service Period (MSP) is a non-contractual agreement to serve the service period within the current organisation.
* Can be served concurrently with the MSP for the Professional Advancement Sponsorship of below S$10,000.
# For sponsorship amount of between S$10,000 to S$30,000, the bond period will commence upon completion of the professional advancement component.
 
Value of the Award
The Paid leave and Professional Advancement sponsorship package is worth S$45,000.
 
Eligibility
  • Applicants must have worked in the capacity of a social worker for at least 5 years in the social service sector.
  • have recognized social work qualifications accepted by the Singapore Association of Social Workers.
 
Application

Applicants are advised to discuss your proposed sabbatical plans with your current employer. All applications must be made through your current working organisation prior to submitting applications.

All applications must be made on the prescribed application form and submitted to the address listed below by 16th May 2008 (extended).

Applications will be evaluated by a Selection Committee. Successful applicants will be notified of the outcome in two months after the closing of application. The decision of the panel will be final.
 
Requirements
Upon return from the sabbatical leave, you will be required to serve the MSP or bond duration in your organisation. You will also be required to conduct a sharing session within your organisation and submit a written report to the employer and the Secretariat.
