Professional and Leadership Development Scheme for Social Workers in the Social Service Sector
 
Purpose

The Professional & Leadership Development Scheme (PLDS) aims to develop promising social workers with leadership potential.

The scheme gives VWOs the opportunity for succession planning and enhances their career development plans for staff with potential.

 
Components of the Scheme

The PLDS has two development components, namely Professional Training and Leadership Training. Details of the two development components are depicted below.

Professional Training – focuses on the macro aspects of running a professional service

Social Work Research

This module will help the participants to examine issues that require attention and determine the need for a service from an evidence-based approach.

Programme Planning and Evaluation

This module examines how one can determine if a service provided meets the client’s needs and achieves the desired social outcome.

Participants will be awarded a Graduate Certificate in Social Work from Monash University upon successful completion of these two modules.

Leadership Training – covers 4 key areas, namely:

Governance & Policy Trends in Singapore & East Asia

Understanding and working effectively in the new context

Organisational Development :

Building robust organisational capacities for service delivery

Dynamic Leadership Training:

Becoming a more effective manager and leader

Team Presentation and Analysis :

Formulating potential solutions towards effective management and problem solving

Participants will receive a Certificate in Executive Leadership Development, jointly awarded by NUS-LKYSPP and SSTI, upon successful completion of the programme.

Social workers who are trained under the scheme will serve a bond with their organisation for up to 2 years. During the bond period, they might also be called upon to assume duty as mentor to junior social workers, should the need arise.

 
Value of the Award
The Professional & Leadership Training together with the salary support is a sponsorship package worth S$35,000.

Attached is a sample of an application for reference.

Application forms must be duly completed and supported with relevant documents. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Applications will be evaluated by the Selection Panel and successful applicants will be notified of the outcome two months after the close of application. The decision of the panel is final.
