The Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) is no stranger to the charitable front. IRAS is guided by the above policy statements in its quest to support the community.
Formed in 2000, the IRAS’ Community Involvement Committee promotes community involvement and volunteerism among its employees. Membership to the committee is also renewed annually to ensure as many staff as possible are given the opportunity to play a part in community work via the planning and organising of community activities.
IRAS collaborates with various stakeholders in its social responsibility efforts targeting youths, education and the environment. More than 70% of its staff are on board Community Chest SHARE programme and they contributed a total donation of $173,125 during the last three financial years. From 2003 to 2009, IRAS was awarded the SHARE Platinum Award, SHARE Gold Award, and a 5-year Outstanding SHARE Award, as recognition of the generosity of its employees. In a strong show of corporate support this year, 100% of its 1,800 staff are involved in voluntary fund-raising.
IRAS has been working with other social service agencies on several fronts. Since 2007, IRAS has collaborated with PEACE–Connect Neighbourhood Link to provide guidance, support and encouragement to the youths. Besides this, more than $400,000 was raised for President’s Challenge, and VWOs such as Disabled People’s Association, Handicaps Welfare Association, and IRAS adopted charity – Children’s Aid Society over the last three years.
IRAS also engages members of the public as volunteers to help in the Volunteer E-filing Services. Through this programme, IRAS created a channel for the public to volunteer their service to assist taxpayers in filing their Individual Income Tax Returns. Some 1,400 volunteers have come forth to render their help to over 17,900 taxpayers for the last three years.
