PSSA 2006 - Individual Category Award Winner

Mrs Mae-Lim Hoon Ann

With 23 years of volunteering experience with the Singapore Children’s Society (SCS), there is no doubt that Mrs Mae-Lim Hoon Ann is an individual truly dedicated to providing assistance to the less privileged children.

Since she joined SCS, Mrs Mae-Lim has held positions in several committees, and has been a regular donor to the society. As the Honorary Secretary of the Executive Committee, her role is not necessarily limited to setting policies for the Society. Prior to the appointment of an Executive Director, she was the mentor for the Society’s corporate-related matters and assisted in the selection and recruitment of key positions in the corporate office.

Her passion and dedication to the cause is evident in her willingness to sacrifice precious time with her family when helping the society. As the Chairperson of the 6 th International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse & Neglect (IPSCAN) Asian Regional Conference in November 2005, she took 4 months no-pay leave to oversee the critical stages of the project. Over 400 delegates from nearly 30 countries attended the conference. In 2002, she also took 2 months no-pay leave to chair the committee that organised a tribute to more than 200 of SCS’s volunteers.

As a member of the Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention Standing Committee, Mrs Mae-Lim was involved in the implementation of public education programmes such as seminars and poster competitions. She also represented SCS in international conferences. Besides volunteering, this inspiring individual has also convinced a number of her friends to contribute to SCS. Mrs Mae-Lim has also been actively involved with career guidance activities for youth with the Singapore Professional Centre since 1976.
