Corporate Category Award Winner
Motorola Electronics Pte Ltd

For more than a decade, Motorola has been actively involved in helping the community, especially in the areas of volunteering, fund-raising and providing employment opportunities for the less privileged.
In the past, Motorola has extended its kindness to a variety of different groups that needed assistance through numerous initiatives, such as organising social outings for the children of Chen Su Lan Children’s Home and visits to Ju Eng Home for Senior Citizens, helping the Society for the Physically Disabled in sorting books & magazines for their Library Project to raise funds, and assisting the Boys’ Brigade with the collection of essential items for the less fortunate during Christmas through an in-house Christmas Wishing Tree.
In 2000, the Motorola Volunteers group was formed as part of the corporation’s sustained volunteerism programme to help the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS). The group organised various social activities such as outings and birthday celebrations for the service users, and initiated a MINDS Superstar event that aimed at showcasing talents among the service users. Other projects with MINDS included clearing litter at Pasir Ris Park in 2003 and the Mooncake Festival celebrations in 2004.
In addition, Motorola also helped MINDS in providing employment opportunities. Six Intellectually Disabled (ID) adults were employed in Motorola in 2003 and had Motorola staff buddies assigned to assist them.
Motorola also took the lead in organising certifiable training courses for the clients, five of them successfully completed the ITE certificate programme, and three of them have found full-time jobs as cleaners at MINDS schools and a polytechnic. Motorola is now looking into developing a skills certification programme in gardening.
Motorola also set up the MINDS Empowerment Fund, which raised over $60,000 through walkathons, charity bazaars and employee pay-roll deduction. The Fund supports the many social programmes developed with MINDS and also helps nine needy families who have difficulties sending their ID children to school.
