Land Transport Authority

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) exhibits a winning attitude in helping the less privileged, through contributing generously to charity and helping to raise funds for the needy, while recognising the importance of responsible corporate citizenship at the same time.
In 2004, LTA came up with a Roadmap for Responsible Corporate Citizenship that detailed steps needed from selecting a beneficiary, to identifying their needs and fund-raising.
An active organiser of fund-raising events, LTA has organised annual Charity Walks since 2000, raising over $600,000 in all for many VWOs and charitable organisations. In March 2005, it organised a musical as part of its 10 th anniversary celebrations, and raised over $88,000 for AWWA TEACH ME Services, its adopted charity for 2005. It also organised the Streets of Singapore e-Auction – where 20-year-old black & white street signs were auctioned and raised $288,000 for the Community Chest. Proceeds went into subsidising transportation costs for children with special needs.
Since 2001, LTA has participated regularly in the President’s Challenge events, raising over $900,000 for Community Chest and other organisations. One unique event was the tunnel walk from Expo MRT station to Changi Airport MRT. LTA also raised funds for the Tsunami relief efforts and the SARS Courage Fund, with donations totalling over $90,000.
LTA provided dialysis machines for National Kidney Foundation (NKF), a customised 7-seater wheelchair-bound vehicle for the elderly in Bright Hill Evergreen Home, and also specially fitted vehicles for the Handicaps Welfare Association. Each year, LTA staff also organise regular interaction opportunities and visits to their adopted charity for the year.
Participation rate in LTA’s SHARE programme has increased from 37% in 1999, to almost 69% in 2006, and the organisation has been awarded the Community Chest Gold Award since 2002. It also won the Corporate Platinum Award in 2003 for its efforts in organising the Streets of Singapore e-Auction and Charity Walk.
