PSSA 2003 - Individual Category Award Winner

Rev Dr Edward Job

As the Executive Director of Christian Care Services Centre (CCSC), Rev Dr Edward Job, 48, has devoted the past seven years reaching out to substance abusers and those with criminal records purely as a volunteer.

A reformed ex-prisoner himself, he firmly believes that a second chance must be given to these individuals. This is why under his leadership, CCSC has been providing free services through:

1. Christian Half-way House for Substance Abusers
2. Aftercare Services for Substance Abusers and Ex-prisoners with their Family Members
3. Missionary Care Centre
4. Family and Individual Counselling Centre
5. Volunteers Service Centre

Rev Dr Edward Job also heads the committee undertaking the awesome responsibility of securing funding for all these projects. Through their efforts, the monthly operating cost of $40,000 is raised through work projects as well as public contributions and gifts.

Capitalising on his insights and experience in the drug work and prisons ministry, he also conducts anti-drug abuse talks in 10 schools, six Family Service Centres, 10 churches, a female Half-way House and the Alcoholics Department in Alexander Hospital.

In addition, his advocacy of the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous programme has proven to be very effective for substance abusers. In fact, many Half-way houses are now using this counselling programme to help those undergoing drug rehabilitation.

Going beyond the shores of Singapore, he has also set up community rehabilitation centres for substance abusers in Chennai, India and Townsville, Australia.

In motivating and training recovering drug addicts to be volunteers for elderly homes, Rev Dr Edward Job has given them and their families a new lease of life.
