Formal Group / Non-Profit / Public Sector Category Award Winner JTC
Corporation
Community
involvement has long been part of the corporate culture at JTC Corporation. In
1996, its efforts were reinforced when a committee was set up to foster staff
bonding and promote the spirit of care and concern.
The
committee has the support of JTC Corporation’s top management. This is a key factor
in encouraging staff participation in community service, and in furthering the
corporation’s core value of promoting care for the less fortunate. JTC
Corporation has been most active in contributing to its two adopted charities:
the Sree Narayana Mission Home for the Aged Sick and the Spastic Children’s Association
of Singapore. JTC Corporation’s staff regularly bring both the children and the
elderly to places of interest. They also undertake painting jobs, provide electrical
repair services and perform cleaning chores. JTC
Corporation’s commitment towards lending a helping hand to those in need is evident
in the ‘Make a Difference Day’ Programme. Under this programme, JTC Corporation’s
staff are regularly given half-a-day time-off to assist children with cerebral
palsy during hydrotherapy classes. Then
there is the ‘Befriend A Child’ Programme, where staff, together with their families,
are encouraged to integrate with special children, by bringing them out on social
and recreational activities after working hours. Since
1996, JTC Corporation has organised the annual ‘Care and Share Day,’ creating
greater awareness on volunteerism and raising funds for its two adopted charities.
Each year, the theme of the ‘Care and Share Day’ focuses on different aspects
of volunteerism, and how staff can help the underprivileged. JTC
Corporation also promotes helping skills among staff – from handling wheelchairs
and communicating with the elderly, to understanding basic physiotherapy and speech
therapy. This is all part of the entrenched culture of volunteerism, which enables
JTC Corporation to make a significant difference in the lives of the less fortunate. www.jtc.gov.sg Other
