Background

The President's Social Service Award (PSSA) is a highly prestigious award, conferred by the office of the President of the Republic of Singapore. It honours and recognises outstanding voluntary contributions made to the social service sector. The awards are given out in four categories:

  1. Individual
  2. Informal group
  3. Formal group/non-profit or public sector organisation
  4. Corporation
It is organised by the National Council of Social Service (NCSS), with support and funding from the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS).

Purpose

The purpose of this award is to inspire individuals, groups, organisations, and corporations to share their resources, time, and expertise to bring about a higher level of community involvement in Singapore.

Recipients of the award serve as role models for others to emulate, having demonstrated long-term (past, present and future) commitment to social service needs of the community.

This year's award was presented by the President of the Republic of Singapore at the Istana on Thursday, 22 October 2009. Winners received an award and a certificate from the President.
