Community Chest must raise and provide $52 million for programmes and projects relating to the four key causes it has identified.
In totality, the funds earmarked for this year will touch the lives of more than 310,000 people in need* in 147 programmes run by 58 charities.
Community Chest, in committing to help Nurture Children To Succeed, has in place a total of 47 high-energy programmes to meet a variety of needs including enabling children to study at special schools designed for the hearing impaired and those with mental and physical disabilities. Technical education is also made available to children with special aptitudes. In addition, there are pre-school integration enhancement programmes, special care and counselling centres.
Another priority for funding is programmes that Help people with disabilities lead Independent lives. From 40 programmes that cover business skills, vocation assessment, training, employment placement, adult and youth centres, workshops, rehabilitation centres and homes, disabled persons are offered opportunities to become economically independent and take their rightful place in society.
There are 30 programmes in place to help Families stay together. The services provided by VWOs includes day care centres, helplines, cyber counselling for young people, family service centres, caregiver support, case management and family counselling centres.
30 various programmes are in place to help in Dignifying the lives of the Elderly. These range from community homes for senior citizens, counselling, home care services to dementia care and leprosy relief centres.
