The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund
The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (SPMF) is a community project initiated by The Straits Times in October 2000, with the aim of providing children from low-income families with pocket money to attend school.
The amount disbursed is:
| $55 a month for a primary school student | |
| $90 a month for a secondary school student |
The fund is to be used as pocket money for students to buy food in school, pay for bus fares, books and stationery.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the SPMF, an applicant (ie. the child) must fulfill the following criteria:
a. Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
b. Full-time student receiving formal education at one of the following:
| a mainstream school (primary/secondary); | |
| special education school, Mountbatten Vocational School; or | |
| a religious school (such as a madrasah) | |
|
c. Living in a 4-room HDB flat or smaller
d. Per capita household income (nett) is $450 per month or less
Application Procedures
The SPMF is administered by the NCSS through appointed SPMF disbursing agencies. The following are disbursing agencies of the SPMF:
