PSSA 2010 - Formal Group/Non-Profit/Public Sector Organisation Category Award Winner

JTC Corporation

JTC Corporation has established a formal structure to coordinate all its community service efforts around three key areas:

  • A Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee to set overall direction and strategies, and endorse annual plans on its CSR efforts
  • A Community Service Committee (CSC) consisting of staff from various clusters/divisions to organise and promote fund-raising efforts
  • A pool of CSR Ambassadors to promote CSR initiatives and encourage their colleagues to take responsibility in moving the CSR agenda forward
  • JTC’s commitment towards promoting volunteerism is evident in the various initiatives for its staff.  For instance, JTC provides a service to match the interests of staff with the types of volunteer programmes and opportunities available.  It also extends two days of community service leave and gives out the JTC Outstanding Community Service Award to recognise deserving staff.  Several clusters and divisions also organise their own volunteering activities, which may involve charities not adopted by JTC. Currently, 70 per cent of JTC’s 764 staff are involved in various community work.

JTC leverages on key milestones and large corporate events as platforms to conduct its major fund-raising efforts.  The modes of engagement are varied and include charity walks, lunch-time sales and carnivals at dragon boat races.  Wherever possible, a charity element is introduced to corporate activities that have wide outreach potential.  An example is JTC’s 40th Anniversary Charity Run, where funds were raised by JTC’s partners, customers, subsidiaries and staff through pledge cards and donations.  Over the last 6 years, JTC has raised more than $1 million, benefiting VWOs such as the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore and Asian Women’s Welfare Association.

Through a concerted and sustained effort involving its staff, customers and partners, JTC has consistently contributed to the community through its active participation and financial support.
