PSSA 2003 -
Corporate Category Award Winner KPMG
KPMG
is an organisation that stands out for its efforts to contribute back to the community.
Since 1999, the company has actively initiated projects and activities to benefit
the less fortunate in society.
To
reaffirm that commitment, the KPMG Community Matters programme was inaugurated
in 2001 to streamline and better coordinate all community and volunteer activities
in KPMG Singapore. Projects
under the programme include blood donation exercises, volunteer recruitment programmes
with Singapore's Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, and the
Singapore Red Cross Society's fund raising and clothing collection programmes. Opportunities
are also created to encourage their staff to play a more active role in community
service. This is clearly reflected in the annual KPMG Community Day, where a business
day is set aside for the entire organisation to serve the less fortunate. This
event is the culmination of months of planning and execution of creative fund-raising
activities in aid of the six voluntary welfare organisations (VWOs) that KPMG
supports. Benefiting
VWOs are regularly consulted to identify their needs. Feedback is also obtained
from VWOs and staff to measure the effectiveness of programmes to help them. In
terms of resource allocation, the organisation has raised more than $450,000 from
its management and staff over the past five years for the six VWOs it supports. In
addition, KPMG is the honorary auditor of not-for-profit organisations and charitable
funds. These include the Singapore Cheshire Home, Singapore Red Cross Society,
Kidney Dialysis Foundation, Sree Narayana Mission Home for the Aged Sick, Singapore
Millenium Foundation and the Courage Fund. Other
