Professional and Leadership Development Scheme for Social Workers in the Social Service Sector
 

Purpose

The Professional & Leadership Development Scheme (PLDS) aims to develop promising social workers with leadership potential.

The scheme gives VWOs the opportunity for succession planning and enhances their career development plans for staff with potential.

 

Components of the Scheme

The PLDS has two development components, namely Professional Training and Leadership Training.

The Professional Training component has two parts: Part A training is conducted by UniSIM and Part B training is conducted by Counselling and Care Centre. Both Part A and Part B must be completed.

The Leadership Training component has two levels. Level 1 is recommended for applicants with 3 to 7 years of experience. Level 2 is recommended for applicants with more than 7 years experience. Level 1 training is conducted at SSTI and Level 2 training is conducted at Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. Awardees will attend either Level 1 or Level 2 Leadership Training depending on their years of experience. Applicants may also indicate their preference of the level of Leadership Training.

Part B
Teaching on Systemic Framework on Clinical Supervision

This module covers the systemic framework for clinical supervision. Some of the concepts to be covered include mutual influence, parallel processes, the use of feedback loops, etc. Also covered will be ideas on working with process and content, and skills in observation and ethical dilemmas in supervision.

10 Individual Consultation Sessions on Supervisory Skills

These consultation sessions will allow participants to discuss with their assigned consultant on supervisory skills so as to enable them to better fulfil their roles as supervisors.

The use of participants’ recorded or “live” sessions is encouraged for maximum benefit to facilitate integration of ideas and practice.

Note:

  • PLDS awardees can continue with 9 additional modules, at their own cost, to complete Masters in SW (UniSIM) within a 4 year timeframe.
  • Both Part A and Part B must be completed.

Value of the Award

The Professional and Leadership Training together with the salary support is a sponsorship package worth an estimated $37,000.

Bond Duration
Successful applicants, upon completing both training courses, will serve a bond with their organisation for up to 2 years.

Prior to submission of the application, applicants are to ensure they have not undertaken other obligations that may affect their ability to serve the bond period under this scheme.

Applications will be evaluated by the Selection Panel.  Successful applicants will be notified of the outcome approximately two months after application is closed. The decision of the Panel is final.
