“As NCSS appointees, they are ‘champions’ in their fields, an agency which other organisations can turn to for consultation and advice. They help foster the spirit of greater collaboration within the social service sector.”

NCSS President, RADM (RET) Kwek Siew Jin

Centres of Specialisation

The 'Centres of Specialisation' is an initiative to build a body of knowledge and specialisation expertise in a particular sector, with the aim of transferring knowledge and expertise across that sector. It was envisioned that these Centres would research into standards and methods, review and improve on processes over time, and document evidence-based best practices and train other VWOs in the sector.

COS

Appointed Centres of Specialisation can be content developers undertaking evidence-based documentation of selected areas of specialisation, subject-matter experts for the selected areas of specialisation promoting capability-building of the sector through the sharing of expertise and body of knowledge, and provide consultation and conduct practice-based training and research when necessary.

NCSS will guide and provide resources on Centres of Specialisation-related projects. A grant commensurable to the Centres of Specialisation project scope and complexity will be awarded to the Centres of Specialisation for the purpose of undertaking development work in the selected area of specialisation. In addition, NCSS will assist Centres of Specialisation as necessary, including linking them with VWOs, government bodies and/or subject experts, and the provision of platforms for communication and sharing of project findings with the sector.

Centres of Specialisation may wish to use the Centre of Specialisation logo on their websites, related events and collaterals. A set of guidelines will be provided to assist appointed Centres on the usage of the logo.
